NOTICE FOR RURAL WATER DISTRICT #3 MEMBERS 

Please be aware that drought conditions are affecting the water levels at Cheney Reservoir.  This affects us directly.  We buy our water from the city of Wichita and Wichita gets its drinking water from two main sources: Cheney Reservoir and the Equus Beds Aquifer.  

Wichita is implementing Stage 2 of their Drought Response Plan.  We must support and conform to their efforts.  Please note that this does not yet trigger any rate changes for us, but if Wichita changes the water rates to their “Uniform Wholesale” customers that would affect us.  Let’s help avoid that!  The target is at least a 10% reduction in water used.  Below are some required changes.   Please do your part to help make sure this does not become an emergency.  

• Reduce outdoor irrigation now – limit watering to 1 time per week
• Water just enough to keep root systems alive; allow lawns to go dormant
• Only water between hours of 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM
• Do not over-seed lawns or plant new trees or shrubs this fall
• Suspend all planting of new trees and ornamentals
• Turf watering restricted to one day a week

 

As a final note, please be aware that if you are within city limits you then you will be affected by their codes and penalties.

Payment options:

We accept payment via cash or check.  Payments can be mailed to the office, brought to the office or to the Carson Bank in Mulvane, Derby, or Wichita.  At the office, payment can be dropped off after business hours and there is a drive up window for your convenience.  

We can also set up an automatic debit of your bank account for the amount of the bill.  We will still send you a bill, but the balance will be debited automatically on the 16th of each month.  The form can be downloaded from the below link or let us know if you are interested and we will send you the simple form.

How to find the office:

From the intersection of K-15 and Rock Road in Mulvane, travel 950 feet north to 111th Street S. (Mulvane's water tower is just northeast of this intersection).  Turn east and travel 1.16 miles, passing Webb Road, to the RWD office.  It is on the north side of 111th Street between Mulvane's Bus Barn and the Mulvane Power Plant.  This is the northwest corner of 111th St. and Utility Park Cir. and is just before a set of railroad tracks.
